Hattiesburg begins construction of the roundabout

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (WHLT) – Construction will begin Wednesday to improve the roundabout at the intersection of 2nd Avenue, Green Street and Adeline Street in Hattiesburg. The project, presented in 2017, will be funded by a grant from the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

City officials said the project is expected to reduce traffic jams and car crashes, as the intersection includes five converging streets.

Designed with enough space in mind to move traffic around the area in a safe and smart way, we believe this is the solution that will contribute to better traffic and navigation experience for residents and visitors alike. .

Mayor Toby Barker, Town of Hattiesburg

The new construction will include a roundabout, new asphalt, greenery, sidewalks, crosswalks and improved road lighting.

The works will begin on Wednesday October 27 and will last for seven months.

Officials said most construction can be completed without road closures, but ending the project may require traffic changes.
