Belatchew Arkitekter: Discus – The new monument of the city of Nacka recognized internationally

STOCKHOLM, November 22, 2018 / PRNewswire / – The Discus skyscraper, Nacka City’s iconic new building, received two international architecture awards in November; the World Architecture News Awards and the Architecture MasterPrize.

Discus was crowned the winner at this year’s edition of the World Architecture News (WAN) Awards. WAN Awards is one of the largest architectural competitions in the world and this year’s edition is the tenth. Discus won the award in the category “Future Projects: Residential” in competition with contributions from Chicago, Louisiana, Miami and Tehran.

Discus has also been awarded the Architecture MasterPrize ™ (AMP), an international award with high ambitions. AMP celebrates the best of design excellence and innovation in the world of architecture. The awards program is dedicated to showcasing and promoting exceptional talent and the value of the art and science of architecture to enrich our lives. Discus received an honorable mention in the category “Mixed Use Architecture” in competition with contributions from Brussels, Jakarta, new York, Taiwan and Vienna.

Discus was designed by Belatchew Arkitekter on behalf of Swedish property developer Sveafastigheter Utveckling. Discus is a historic new building in Nacka City – a thriving part of the Stockholm metropolitan area of Sweden – which, with its characteristic silhouette, is designed to become the symbol of a growing agglomeration. Discus will be placed at the heart of Nacka’s new public transport hub, just above the metro station in Nacka City’s new downtown.

– We are proud and happy that Discus is being built in Nacka. Discus is a fine example of a large building with exciting architecture that will contribute to the new urban silhouette of Nacka, says Nina Åman, City Architect, Municipality of Nacka.

– We are extremely proud of the international attention that Discus has received and look forward to developing this project, together with the Municipality of Nacka, said Rahel Belatchew, CEO, Founder and Principal Architect, Belatchew Arkitekter.
