11 companies bid for the construction of the 29 km first phase of the Bahrain metro rail project


Bahrain (Urban Transport News): The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) proposes to develop an efficient public transport service by introducing a state-of-the-art fully automated, driverless metro system with modern technology that meets international standards.

MTT plans to develop a 109 km long metro system in 4 phases. The Bahrain Metro Phase 1 project includes two lines with a total length of 29 kilometers and 20 stations. MTT is seeking to acquire the project as an integrated PPP to be acquired through a two-stage process comprising pre-qualifications followed by the main tender.

In the first stage, MTT intends to pre-select suitably experienced and qualified firms with relevant expertise to design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer the project. The applicant must submit a detailed application before the PQA submission deadline.

The following bidders have expressed interest in the construction of Phase 1 of the Bahrain Metro project.

4. Alstom Transport SA
5. Taqi Mohammed Albahrana Trading East.
6. Hyundai Engineering and Construction
7. Aradous Energy Generations Co.
8. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T)
9. Virtue Global Holding Ltd.
10. Plenary Asia Pte. ltd.
11. CRRC (Hong Kong) Co.Ltd.

Based on REM and other considerations, pre-qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the next stage.

The first phase of the Bahrain Metro project will consist of two lines with a total length of 29 kilometers and 20 stations, connecting Muharraq, Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Juffair, Seef District, Tubli, Adhari and Isa City.
